Grocers pull recalled peanut butter

Several area grocery stores pulled recalled jars of peanut butter off their shelves Thursday, taking no chances after the brands were linked to a salmonella outbreak.

Food Lion in Stanleytown, Kroger and Wal-Mart all removed the recalled peanut from their shelves on Thursday.

Wal-Mart carried both the Great Value and Peter Pan brands, while Food Lion had the Peter Pan brand.

ConAgra Foods Inc. told consumers to discard certain jars of Peter Pan and Great Value peanut butter after the spread was linked to a salmonella outbreak that has sickened almost 300 people nationwide, The Associated Press reported.

Lids of jars with a product code beginning “2111" can be returned to ConAgra for a refund, the company said. Affected jars were produced by ConAgra at a plant in Sylvester, Ga.

Rock ‘n’ Bowl in the fast lane

Rollin' with the homies is cool, but bowling with the homies is better, and Pinz Bowling Center is the perfect place to do it. Renovated a few years ago, the alley brings in a new generation of bowlers with its "Rock 'n' Bowl" Friday and Saturday nights.

Located on Ventura Boulevard in downtown Century City, Pinz is a great getaway (that is just 35 minutes away) for anyone looking for something a bit out of the ordinary.

While the Los Angeles scene is known for glitzy venues, if one is under 21 the fast lane to a good time is as rare as a lucky strike. However, Pinz is a prime location for people of all ages to enjoy an evening of clean fun for just $7 a frame and $4 for shoes. Games cost $9 after 7 p.m. on weekends.

Unlike other trendy L.A. bowling alleys where bowlers must wait hours to get their foot on a lane, getting in the game at Pinz usually takes less than 20 or 30 minutes.

Migraine Relief The Natural Way

The number of people suffering from migraine headaches is astronomical. In fact, more than 25 million people will have a migraine at one time or another. However, there are natural things you can do to relieve migraines and bring you both instant comfort and long-term relief.

What pain relief alternatives do you have? Besides vomiting or taking controversial painkillers, you can close the shades, dim the lights and crawl into bed. And that's about it. Anyone who's had migraines for any length of time knows what I'm talking about.

If you'd like to learn some new techniques, here are some suggestions.

Though no one knows for sure, most migraines seem to be caused by glandular imbalances, stress or tension, foods like chocolate, alcohol and caffeine, food colorings and additives like MSG and medications like birth control pills.

Mini raspberry tartlets with brown sugar pastry

Combine the flour, sugar, salt and nutmeg in the bowl of a food processor. Add the egg and butter and pulse for 30-40 seconds or until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs. Turn onto a lightly floured surface and bring dough together with your fingertips. Shape into a disc. Wrap in plastic wrap and place in the fridge for 30 minutes to rest. Meanwhile, combine the cream cheese and vanilla in a small bowl. Preheat oven to 200°C. Divide pastry into 14 equal portions. Roll 12 portions into balls. Line twelve 30ml (1 1/2-tbs) capacity non-stick mini-muffin pans with pastry balls, pressing to line the base and sides. Roll the remaining dough portions together into a 5mm-wide log. Flatten slightly. Spoon 1/2 tsp of cream cheese mixture into each tart. Top with 2-3 raspberries. Cut pastry log into 24 strips, about 3cm long.

Phils' college nights enter second year

After such a successful 2006 season targeting college students, the Phillies are rolling out quite a display of special discounts, giveaways and promotions for 2007, beginning with the inaugural Peanut Chews College Opening Night on Wednesday, April 4, against the Atlanta Braves.

Students from more than 50 colleges throughout Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware will have the opportunity to attend Rooftop Thursdays, which were sold out last year, Hatfield Phillies Franks Dollar Dog dates, a BOGO (Buy One Get One) date and other themed college nights.

"One of the goals is to get them in while they're young and get them enjoying the game and the ballpark at a cost they can afford," said Michele DeVicaris, coordinator of Phillies events. "Then we're hoping they become fans for life.
