Banks County man joins peanut butter lawsuit
A team of attorneys, already working on other salmonella food poisoning cases in Georgia, filed a lawsuit this week on behalf of a Banks County man who became ill after eating peanut butter. Billy Duren of Homer, reportedly required medical treatment and hospitalization after he experienced extreme nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, and abdominal pain as a result of eating Peter Pan and Great Value peanut butter. The suit was filed against ConAgra Foods, Inc., the manufacturer of Peter Pan and Great Value peanut butter that has been linked to a salmonella outbreak that has affected people in 39 states. All of the peanut butter in question was produced at ConAgra’s factory in Sylvester, Georgia, which is under investigation by the FDA. Second Life's In-World Terrorism and The Struggle for Digital Rights
These folks aren't your run-of-the-mill hackers or griefers looking to cause mischief. Rather, these are 'activists' who are working subversively within Second Life (SL) to achieve political ends. Their goal is to extend digital rights for SL users beyond the standard customer-company relationship. Subsequently, by dealing with current in-world problems they are, perhaps unintentionally, looking ahead to the day when Second Life and other virtual worlds play a much more meaningful role in our lives.Avatars of Second Life, unite! Specifically, I am referring to the Second Life Liberation Army (SLLA). Their intention is to liberate SL users from the perceived tyranny of Linden Labs, the developer of SL. The group was formed as the in-world paramilitary wing of a national liberation movement. They argue that universal suffrage is a right that should be established within SL immediately.
Kraft Hopes to Take a Bite of Take-Out and HJ Heinz’s Earnings Preview
City of Industry, CA --(www.FinancialNewsUSA.com)-- 02/27/2007 - Consumer Goods industry news provided by Financial News USA (OTC: FNWU). Kraft Foods Inc. (NYSE:KFT), looking for a way to end a prolonged sales slump, is trying to take a bite out of its real competition -- restaurants. As the world's second largest food and Beverage Company, Kraft Foods has pioneered everything from sliced processed cheese to packaged stuffing. But as more families forego the time-honored yet time-consuming homemade dinner for the ease and convenience of take-out, Kraft and other food companies have struggled to stay on the forefront of consumers' tastes. PepsiCo Inc. (NYSE:PEP) reaffirmed on Thursday its 2007 earnings forecast of at least $3.30 per share. The company also said it still expects mid-single digit growth in net revenue and volume, according to a filing with the U.S.
In-store painters keep dreams alive as illustrators
MESA, Ariz. -- Above the chips display at the Trader Joe's in north Scottsdale, a chalk-drawn sign shows a rosy-cheeked sumo wrestler gripping the neck of a ravenous panda bear. The colorful hand-stenciled letters read: "Wonton Chips $.99: More fun than watching a panda bear fight a Sumo Wrestler." To customers the sign might be a just a silly advertisement. But for 25-year-old Robert Pelletier, it's a masterpiece. Pelletier is one of at least 40 full-time artists who create signs, murals, chalkboards and graphics to advertise prices while brightening the ambiance at Trader Joe's and Whole Foods stores in metro Phoenix. A grocery store may be an unconventional setting for an artist, but in the art world the position is held in high regard, invites fierce competition and is the only way for some artists to continue working in their field.
