| Dining Out / The sweetness added to its charm
On first entering Tapasta, hearing its "music with a beat" and seeing the dark, rectangular bar that dominates most of the physical space, one might think that this new establishment functions primarily as a bar. As the eye sweeps the place, it also becomes clear that unless one is seated at the bar or chooses to dine out of doors, if it's a pleasant evening, one will be relegated to one of the just-a-bit-too-small tables that line the walls of the building. Fortunately, after taking a place, our fears were quickly dispelled by a friendly, courteous and responsive waitress. We were two for dinner, and decided to share three different dishes. Our opening course was a green salad, composed of two different kinds of lettuce, halved cherry tomatoes, walnuts, thin slivers of red onion and whole sauteed champignon and also wild mushrooms.
New website taking Gosling's to the world
It's a common predicament for tourists: They've tasted black rum for the first time in a dark n' stormy or a rum swizzle and they've fallen in love with it, or spiced up their meals with a zesty local sauce and must now have it with everything they eat. But the poor visitor doesn't get a chance to pick up the recipes before they leave. A new website - goslingsstore.com - aims to put that right. "There isn't a recipe I know of that isn't improved with the addition of rum," said Edward Bottone (aka the Curious Cook), the creative force and marketing director behind the Gosling's food product line. An array of cakes, preserves, sauces and, of course, rum are available for purchase on the site. Mr. Botttone said the foods are authentically Bermudian - the vast majority of the ingredients are either grown or produced in Bermuda.

The mac-daddy of Southern 'veggies'
Southern mythology likes us to believe that Thomas Jefferson invented macaroni and cheese. While he likely was the first president to serve something like it in the White House, having discovered the joys of pasta during his European sojourns, it's doubtful he can claim any rights to the dish. Nevertheless, by the time cannons roiled at Fort Sumter, macaroni and cheese was quite stuck in the food conscience of most of the South. Macaroni and cheese, known among friends as mac-and-cheese, might be the most common dish that persists so strongly from our childhood to the tables we set today. Remarkably simple to make, and almost as minimalist as the two-ingredient name implies, it's a foundation of our canon of comfort food. .

Huber on back burner
Siting a new Huber/AODA work release jail and treatment facility has officially been temporarily shelved by the Dane County Board. The board voted overwhelmingly Thursday night to suspend siting plans for the proposed $34 million to $38 million combined work release jail and alcohol and drug abuse treatment center, so county officials can take a second look at it, in case a smaller building would be more appropriate if the county streamlines the local Huber program by going to electronic monitoring of minimum-security inmates. County Executive Kathleen Falk supports suspending the current siting plan so another look can be taken at the criminal justice system in Dane County by all the stakeholders involved, including the circuit judges, the sheriff and the district attorney.
