| And talking of the budget…
The union budget may be termed bland but healthy (Like curates eggs, good in part, DNA, March 1), but the expectations of the salaried class have not been met. After one long year of wait, the benefit will be just a Rs1,000 reduction in annual income tax ie: Rs80 per month. We were expecting at least a Rs25,000 increase in the threshold limit, coupled with Rs25,000 increase in 80C limit, which would have helped to reduce tax liability and increase compulsory savings, but it was not to be. CU Venugopal, Mumbai II P Chidambarams union budget for 2007-08 has literally gone to the dogs, with his assertion that pet food will be cheaper now with the cut on duties. The common man may be left in the lurch, but every dog has its own day! EL Vaidyanathan, Mumbai III The finance minister has increased the income tax exemption limit by Rs10,000, which is ten per cent higher for the general tax payer, about 7.4 per cent for women tax payers, but a little over five per cent for the senior citizen, which is less than the inflation rate.

New Data Showed Fluticasone Furoate Nasal Spray Effectively ...
SAN DIEGO, Feb. 27 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- An allergy medicine currently under review by the Food and Drug Administration was effective and well-tolerated in treating a range of nasal allergy symptoms such as congestion, sneezing, itchy and runny nose, according to clinical studies presented at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology (AAAAI). In two separate Phase III clinical studies (poster #1190, 908, 910, and 906), fluticasone furoate nasal spray (FFNS) was more effective than placebo in relieving both the nasal and eye symptoms of patients 12 years and older with seasonal allergic rhinitis, commonly known as hay fever. And now, the meat sacrifice
Editor's note: This is Week 3 in our writer's experiment with giving up different foods. Next week: flour products. I loaded up on the bloody stuff the week before I knew I'd exile it from my life. I sampled 10 different chilis in one sitting. Fat wheels of soft salami. A pork burrito the size of a football. A bowl of raw fish at a Japanese restaurant. An entire plate of egg salad, shoveled frantically down my gullet with a spoon one afternoon, alone in the kitchen. Slabs of roasted cod spritzed with lemon. More ... much more. And then I awoke on a Monday to the sad conclusion of the flesh fiesta. I'd turned vegan. No meat, fish or eggs, plus the dairy I'd eliminated from my diet the previous week. And the first week of this journalistic experiment - I was removing categories of foods from my diet a week at a time to see how difficult it would be, and to find out if it affected my body and mood - I'd rejected sugar.
Celebrity chef to woo foodies with organic chain
An organic food chain backed by celebrity chef and TV presenter Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall will make its debut within the next two months. The Natural Kitchen will open its first store on Marylebone High Street in London. The £500,000 start-up capital is understood to have been provided by financiers Harvinder Hungin and Elliot Bernerd – who together co-ordinated the £2.1 billion privatisation of property investment group Chelsfield Partners in 2003. Industry sources said that the company had plans to open up to 40 stores across the UK. The Natural Kitchen is understood to be on the hunt for a second location in the vicinity of London’s Spitalfields Market. The ethos behind the chain is to provide fresh organic food that will replicate the best of what is on offer at outlets such as Borough Market in southeast London.
